My journey to the guardians of the forest
Photographer York Hovest spent a hundred days traveling in South America. The world's most water-rich river runs through the largest tropical rainforest area in the world, many parts of which are virtually unexplored. Only a few indigenous peoples still live there in a very traditional way. Together with shamans, tribal elders and their families, York Hovest embarks on a journey through the Amazon basin to capture the beauty of the rainforest and its inhabitants on camera.
York Hovest, born in Wesel in 1978, is an internationally successful advertising and fashion photographer who lives in Munich and works all over the world. Touched by a personal meeting with the Dalai Lama in 2011 and inspired by his moving words about the fate of his country, he promised to capture Tibet in pictures and sound. One year later, he set off on his 100-day journey to the roof of the world.
